巴庫拉斯部落是布農語，意思是河岸平坦、水源豐沛的好地方，而布農人稱「人」為bunun，這也是該族名稱的由來。
原布農族共分為六個群，均居住於南投一帶，分別是卓社群、郡社群、卡社群、丹社群、巒社群以及已被同化的蘭社群(takopulan)。而此行的巴庫拉斯即屬卡社群(take bakha)分怖在信義鄉潭南、地利、雙龍三村。 |

地利村的布農語為~~達瑪巒
(現今總人口數 約有1300多人)
在日據時代，日本人為了便於管理，將各社群以威逼、利誘的方式遷來地利；據說播遷初期，地利是一片大沼澤地，蚊蟲危害嚴重，破壞農作物，害居民得瘟疫，某天出現一隻大公雞，將蚊蟲都吃掉了，原住民為了感謝公雞，將地利取名為達瑪巒（即公雞），在地利村的入口處，便有一具高聳的銅鑄公雞雕像。
信義鄉巴庫拉斯部落，位居中央山脈濁水溪畔，一群部落布農族人，期待讓這塊地成為原住民文化與生態旅遊結合的豐饒之地。 |

遠方山際的雙龍村
隔著濁水溪與地利村相望，據了解，從16號省道途經的民和村(非布農族)、地利村、雙龍村此三村原名即是 "天時、地利、人和"之寓意哩! 其中的雙龍村原叫天時，距今的稱呼相去較大哩!
記得曾經二度探訪過該村的雙龍瀑布，僅記得期中最大的差異是，原本宛如從天而降的兩條巨龍狀瀑布當九二一地震之後，中間的分隔巨石墜落 (據說造成該地相當大的創傷)而成現今的"單龍瀑布"呀!! |
